Matthew Jane reports on a night of celebration at the NBA Support Staff Awards

It was a night of glitz and glamour, a rare chance for school support staff to enjoy the limelight and bask in some well-deserved praise.

I spent Saturday at the NBA School Support Staff Awards at the beautiful Merchant Taylors' Hall in London's financial heartland.

While the champagne flowed and the speeches were delivered, it was warming to hear the many stories of dedication, innovation and hard work which resulted in the nominations for the prestigious award.

From schools who had cut their carbon footprint, to bursars who had pioneered the role of school business management, everyone present was more than deserving of their praise.

The winner of the Bursar of the Year 2008 Award, Martin Kerslake from Weston-super-Mare was notably thrilled with his award, but humbly opted to dedicate it his committed team that had made his nomination possible.

Everyone present had enjoyed a day in London, seeing the sights and benefitting from a well-earned break before the evenings partying began.

We are all aware of the pivotal role that you, and other support staff play in your school. It is only right that you receive the praise you deserve. So why not nominate your top support staff for next years prize. It could be you sat at the banquet table next year, sipping champagne with the Ed Exec team!
