Feeling festive

Released 11/12/2009

The pressures of Christmas will all be worth it, thinks Matthew Jane

It was with slightly bleary eyes that I looked at my computer screen on Thursday morning. I fear I am getting too old for going to parties on a school night, gone are the days when I could burn the midnight oil and remain bright eyed and bushy tailed the following morning.

I enjoyed the first of a few Christmas party drinks on Wednesday evening, which was when the realisation dawned on me that the Christmas period is fast approaching. Yes, the Christmas lights are on, the radio has got Wham! and Band Aid on loop, but having a couple of glasses of mulled wine with my colleagues drilled it home to me that the festive season is most definitely upon us.

As much as we love the Christmas season at Ed Exec Towers (I know Suzannah has become increasingly excited each time a Christmas song is played), it does mean that the rush to try and get everything finished in time for the seasonal break is in full flow.

I am sure you are all feeling slightly snowed under, with those last minute dashes and the rush to get everything signed off before the school closes.

It is all worth it though. While the run up to Christmas is a challenging time, with a staff of tired workers, a school full of over-excited children and two weeks less to complete all the tasks on your desk, the ability to hit the Christmas holiday and totally switch off is priceless.

So, it may be a hard slog for the next couple of weeks, but hang on in there. The light is there at the end of the tunnel, and there will be plenty of time for a Glühwein or two when you're finished.
