REBUILT SCHOOLS TO RECYCLE FURNITURE

Schools forced to use old furniture after contract issues

Two new schools are to receive recycled furniture in order to ensure the rebuilding work continues.

The two projects, at Craigroyston Community High School and Tynecastle High, have suffered major setbacks which led to spiraling costs.

The work was delayed as a result of the discovery of cables, utility pipes and even asbestos.

But as part of a new deal to keep the work on track, the schools will use furniture from the existing school, rather than buying new equipment.

The work had previously ground to a halt as a result of contract complications.

Councillor Marilyne MacLaren said: "Contract negotiations have greatly reduced the additional costs. This is the result of hard work from both sides and demonstrates the close partnership between ourselves and Axiom."

She continued: "All of the new schools will provide a wonderful learning environment."
