FREE LUNCH FOR WINDSOR PUPILS

Released 27/08/2008

New starters in Windsor schools will receive free school meals for a week, in a council funded scheme.

New starters at schools in Windsor and Maidenhead will receive free meals for a week.

It is hoped this will encourage children to continue choosing school meals throughout the school year.

More than 1,300 five-year-olds starting in Year 1 at 42 schools across the borough are being offered free lunches for their first week. Normally the meals cost £2 per day.

The promotion is being funded by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and its school meals contractor Harrison Catering Services.

Cllr Eileen Quick said:  "We believe that when the children have tasted the food for themselves and discovered just how delicious it is, they will want to carry on having school meals in the future."

Letters have been sent to parents of new Year 1s to let them know about the free lunches.
