Government to look at data protection

New steps after discs lost

New measures are to be put in place to protect teacher data, announced the government.

The General Teaching Council for England is to put in place the measures in the light of data breaches.

Schools minister Jim Knight responded to parliamentary questioning about a disc lost by an organisation that contained details of over 11,000 teachers.

The disc was transported through a recognised courier but was lost in transit.

The GTC, DCSF and Knight have now "taken urgent steps to put additional security checks in place for the affected records."
