Scheme to boost headteacher numbers gets government funding

A scheme to ensure teachers in urban areas advance quickly to headships has secured extra funding.

Teaching Leaders has secured government funding of £870,000 to expand the pilot over the next two years.

THe scheme, developed by academy sponsor ARK, The NCSL, Teach First and Future Leaders, takes talented middle leaders on a two-year leadership development programme.

The training involves formal teaching methods, such as seminars and masterclasses, and less formal, such as problem-solving discussion groups.
